SOLD A fine late 18th century English brass universal equinoctial ring dial

An English late 18th century equinoctial ring dial signed Proctor Beilby&Co London.This is the traditonal Ring dial that is associated with the name Gemma Frisius in 1557, originally developed it from the Armilliary Sphere and the Astronomical Ring, but its final form was only arrived at when the Reverend William Oughtred published a description of it in 1652. The Universal dial can be used over a wide range of latitudes and both hemispheres.
