SOLD The zograscope or optical digonal machine, was made for viewing prints of landscapes, thereby endeavouring to create an illusion of seeing the landscape directcly. The origins of this device remains obscure, but it is thought to have first appeared in Paris early 19th century. To counter the reversal of the image brought about by the mirror, the prints had to be made reversed. Such reversed prints were certainly on sale in 1753, and the device continued to be popular into the nineteenth century.
